Statement by the Egyptian Parliament abroad on the detention of Dr. Mohamed Mahsoub in Italy
Egypt Parliament Abroad received with anger and condemnation the news of detention of Dr. Mohamed Mahsoub, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs in the former Government of Dr Hesham Kandeel and member of the constituent Assembly, by the Italian authorities in preparation for his extradition to Egypt in an unprecedented move from a European country and EU Member that is supposed to adhere to the values of freedom and human rights, and one of its citizens was murdered under torture at the hands of the coup in Egypt in the complete absence of justice and democratic values and human rights.
Egypt Parliament Abroad calls upon the Italian Parliament, European Parliament, Italian leaders and all human rights organizations to quickly intervene with the Italian authorities to release Dr Mohamed Mahsoub and give him full security so that he could leave Italy to the country that he wishes to travel to, so that this will not be a dangerous precedent and black spot in Italy and the European Union’s record in handing over honest politicians to the coup regime instead of handing over killers of Regini under torture.
Egypt Parliament Abroad calls on Egyptians all over the world to send delegations to Italian consulates and embassies to object to such an action and mobilization of Egyptians in Italy to gather in front of the Italian Government Headquarters and in front of the place where Dr Mahsoub is detained to support him.
